What We Do

We offer a variety of treatments to improve skin tone, texture, and appearance. We also offer treatments to correct or repair:

  • Acne, acne scars, and surgical scars
  • Brown spots (sometimes called liver spots) caused by aging, sun damage, or hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines, wrinkles, and aging concerns
  • Dull, dry skin
  • Redness and rosacea
  • Sensitive or inflamed skin reactions
  • Skin darkening caused by melasma hormonal pigmentation
  • Unwanted hair

Initial Consultation Determines Next Steps
If you have a skin concern but are unsure about its cause or which treatment is beneficial, your first visit will be with a licensed aesthetician or a medical aesthetician.

  • Aestheticians are licensed, skin care professionals who provide treatments designed to enhance the health and beauty of the skin.
  • Licensed medical aestheticians have completed additional training. In addition to the health and beauty of the skin, licensed medical aestheticians evaluate people with skin concerns related to a medical condition or treatment. They also provide guidance and treatment recommendations for people with sensitive skin issues.

We Evaluate Your Concerns
Your initial consultation with the aesthetician will not involve any treatments. Instead, the aesthetician will evaluate your concerns and ask questions about different factors that may impact the quality, texture, tone, and appearance of your skin. The questions cover topics such as:

  • Your medical history (including conditions that may affect your skin health)
  • Products and medications you may be using
  • Environmental exposures and lifestyle habits that influence your skin’s appearance and texture

Once a clear picture develops, the aesthetician will recommend treatment options customized to your skin’s needs. They may test different products to ensure an optimal result. Or they may refer you to a surgeon who specializes in cosmetic procedures that will give you the results you want.

Skin Care Treatment Options

We offer a variety of nonsurgical cosmetic treatments that repair skin damaged by aging, excessive sun exposure, and lifestyle habits such as smoking, alcohol use, and diet.

Skin Care Products

Topical products may be recommended to rejuvenate the skin, treat acne, manage rosacea, minimize scarring, or manage spots and melasma. They may contain powerful antioxidants, retinoids, anti-pigment creams, growth factors, moisturizers, or sunscreens. These products do not require a prescription but are only available through a medical aesthetic center.

Chemical and Enzyme Peels

Chemical and enzyme peels are used to treat some types of acne, texture issues, hyperpigmentation, age spots, and scars. Different depths of chemical peels can be used depending on the skin type and condition. Very deep chemical peels are used by cosmetic surgeons.

Cryotherapy

This treatment gently freezes away age spots and sunspots anywhere on the body.

Facial Waxing, Brow Tint, Lash Lift and Tint

Facial waxing temporarily removes unwanted facial hair, and brow tinting adds color and depth to eyebrows. A lash tint and lift enhances the curl of the lashes and adds color and depth to the lashes.

Facial Fillers and Injections

Dermal filler and injectables can replace lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and restore a more natural, youthful appearance.  These procedures are performed by Duke cosmetic surgeons who are experts in choosing from 16 hyaluronic acid fillers, two bio stimulators, and four neuromodulators (such as Botox); to enhance your natural facial structure and overall appearance.

Dermaplaning

This procedure uses an exfoliating blade to skim off dead skin cells, debris, and hair from the surface of the skin. It leaves your skin feeling smooth while enhancing the delivery of skin care products into the skin.

Semi-Permanent Makeup (Eyebrows and Eyeliner)

Semi-permanent makeup enhances the eyes and brows, which can add more definition to your face. Pigment is injected into the top layer (epidermis) of the skin through a small, vibrating needle. Results can last from eight months to two years, depending on your skin type and lifestyle.

  • Eyebrow micro-shading creates soft, natural looking eyebrows or enhances your existing eyebrows.
  • Semi-permanent eyeliner is deposited into the epidermis of the eyelid on the lash line. Different looks can be achieved depending your preference.

Less Invasive Energy-Based Treatments

If you are bothered by the presence of sagging skin, these less-invasive skin tightening treatments use heating techniques to promote collagen production and improve skin tone. While temporary, they can result in a more youthful look with few side effects and almost no downtime.

Ultrasound Skin Tightening

An energy-based device delivers ultrasound energy to induce the production of collagen, which lifts and tightens loose skin. It is usually performed on the brow, chin, neck, and chest. There may be some temporary discomfort during the procedure. Side effects can include temporary redness, bruising, and numbness. Results can be seen within a few months and last about one year.

Broadband Light Therapy (BBL)

BBL is a non-ablative energy-based device, meaning it does not remove any layers of skin. Rather, this type of light therapy penetrates the skin and targets hair roots, spider veins, and other structures below. They may be used to improve the color and texture of your skin as these conditions relate to hyperpigmentation, acne, rosacea, and redness. They can perform multiple times in 4-to-6-week intervals depending on your skin’s need.

Micro-Needling Therapy

Infini is a micro-needling device that delivers high-intensity radio-frequency energy to multiple layers below the skin’s surface. It is best for skin tightening of the face and neck. Healing typically takes two to three days, which is much faster than laser treatment. Three treatments, spaced apart by about one to two months, are recommended. A nurse usually performs this treatment.

More Invasive Energy-Based Treatments

Duke cosmetic surgeons and aestheticians use a variety of lasers to rejuvenate skin, improve skin color and improve skin texture. The type of laser recommended will depend on your needs. Different lasers are available at Duke locations.

Laser Resurfacing

Cosmetic lasers stimulate the growth of collagen and improve skin tone and texture. They may be used to reduce facial wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and loose skin. Different types of lasers may be recommended.

Duke offers CO2 lasers (fractional and traditional) which remove the top layer of the skin and penetrate the dermis. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process by enhancing collagen production and tightening the skin. They may be used to treat acne and deeper skin flaws. While this type of laser treatment requires a longer time for your skin to heal, it achieves more lasting results than less intense energy treatments. These treatments are performed by cosmetic surgeons.

Halo Laser Treatment

Select Duke locations offer the Halo laser treatment. The hybrid technology combines the benefits of an ablative laser, which removes the top, dull, outer layers of the skin, with non-ablative lasers that heat the underlying skin tissue. The laser treatment refines skin texture, reduces pore size, and helps build collagen and elastin, which results in a more youthful, luminescent appearance.

Erbium Lasers

Erbium lasers include Nano, Micro, and deep resurfacing peels. This procedure helps remove layers of the epidermis from fine lines and wrinkles to deeper ones. Superficial laser peels (Nano and Micro) can be performed by aestheticians to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, whereas deep resurfacing laser peels are performed by surgeons. They are available in select Duke locations.

Permanent Hair Reduction

BBL (broadband light therapy) providing multiple bursts of energy by keeping the skin protected and progressively raising the follicle temperature to a therapeutic level for hair removal. It inhibits unwanted hair growth for an extended period of time. Multiple treatments are required.
