Our board-certified physicians and expert staff are specially trained in occupational medicine. We offer services ranging from one-time individual or situational assessments to design and implementation of injury-prevention, wellness, monitoring, and compliance programs for workplaces. We work with individual patients, employers, and other parties and recognize that each has different needs. After identifying your unique concerns, we create a customized solution from the services we offer. We provide evaluations and treatment consistent with applicable regulations, protect confidentiality, and provide carefully considered advice on work restrictions and job accommodations.

Programs

We offer a wide spectrum of services, from one-time individual or situational assessments to design and implementation of injury-prevention, wellness, monitoring, and compliance programs. We work with individual patients, employers, and other parties. Our programs and services include:

Biologic Hazards and Exposure Evaluations

We provide consultations for occupational or environmental biological hazards, exposure assessment regarding environmental or occupational settings, and epidemiology consultation for environmental or occupational health. Occupational or environmental biological hazards services include assessment of indoor air quality and occupational hazards in health care settings. We also offer exposure assessment services, which include industrial hygiene evaluations for many potential hazards such as:

  • Noise
  • Asbestos
  • Heavy metals
  • Organic solvents
  • Indoor air pollution

In addition, we provide statistical or group assessments for health effects in clusters of patients exposed to environmental or occupational health hazards.

Ergonomics and Occupational Pain

We offer consultations and treatment for workers at risk for or suffering from cumulative trauma, repetitive strain, ergonomic disorders, and work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

Occupational Health and Wellness for Duke Employees

We help faculty, staff, and their family members practice prevention through a broad range of health management programs that emphasize a proactive approach to improving health and preventing disease before it happens. For more about this program for Duke employees, please visit the visit the Duke Human Resources Web site.

Toxicology Consultation and Services

We offer consultations regarding the investigation and treatment of occupational or product-specific exposures. In addition, assistance concerning occupational and environmental emergencies is offered 24 hours a day. Call 919-286-5744 for more information.

Work Ability/Work Disability

Our occupational medicine, ergonomics, and mental health professionals effectively address most questions pertaining to a person’s ability to perform a job, the risks of a particular person doing a job, or job modifications necessary to make a job “fit.” We are available to address these questions as they relate to:

  • Hiring process
  • Disability claim
  • Work performance problem
  • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) application
  • Work injury
  • Troublesome workplace behavior
