Spiritual care for people of all faiths

Pastoral Care fulfills the spiritual dimension of the Duke Medicine mission. As members of the health care team at Duke, our staff provides counseling and support to patients, families, caregivers, visitors, and staff throughout Duke University Health System.

Pastoral services are available at all Duke Medicine hospitals any time of day or night. We provide support, guidance, and someone to listen when you or a loved one is in need. Whether you’re facing a sudden health challenge or end-of-life decisions, need guidance on ethical decision-making, or need a place to focus on prayer and meditation, we’re here for you. 

  • Multi-faith chapels for prayer, meditation, and reflection
  • Facilitation and support of religious practices of all faiths 
  • 24-hour on-call chaplain for health emergencies

Request chaplain services

Hospital chaplains are available day or night to offer spiritual and emotional support to people of all faiths and belief systems. Contact us if you are:

  • in need prayer or spiritual counsel
  • making a request for a religious ritual
  • asking spiritual questions
  • anticipating surgery or a procedure
  • anxious, worried, lonely or far from home
  • grieving a loss or life change
  • facing difficult decisions
  • celebrating a religious or spiritual occasion
  • in need of information about community religious resources
