Duke University Health System and its communities -- a report on community benefit

Providing health care services to those who are uninsured or underinsured is a fundamental commitment of Duke University Health System.

To provide a better understanding of DUHS's contributions to its communities, we have produced Partners in Care. The report provides details of the formally defined components of DUHS's Community Benefit (charity care, Medicaid program losses, health professions education, contributions to community groups, and community health assessment activities) as well as additional community investments (Medicare program losses and bad debt), which totaled $252 million in 2009.
