Share Your Story

Dr. Sandy WilliamsI hope and trust that you have been entertained, enlightened, and challenged by the collection of essays reflecting upon the Magic of Medicine at Duke. It is my goal that this initial publication in both online and print form will signal not the end but rather the beginning of this project, and that a continuing wave of new contributions to future editions will rightfully follow.

To that end, I invite you to build upon the narrative history of the Duke Medicine community -- its people, its places, its evolution -- by contributing an essay of your own.

Calling upon your most creative and colorful ideas, describe an event, a series of events, a person, or a group that you believe contributed importantly to the magic of this place -- how such distinction and high accomplishment in medicine arose and prospered in a small Southern town. I offer considerable poetic license, though responsibility for the accuracy of factual information remains yours.

Exact execution matters less than the spirit in which the essay is written; the primary mission is to be interesting and personal. This is an opportunity to tell present and future generations of Duke students, faculty, alumni, and others about something that, in your judgment, has been important to Duke’s success in medicine, in your own words.

Please stay tuned in the coming months for additional details and deadlines. In the meantime, if you feel so inclined, I welcome your submission in advance of the next phase of Magic at Duke.

Sincerely,
Sandy
