About Me

I am a general surgeon specializing in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. My philosophy behind patient care is to treat every single patient as if they are a member of my family. By allowing me the privilege of operating on them and caring for them, my patients become my family and this has helped me enjoy some of the most rewarding moments of my life. The ability to help people through medical and surgical difficulties as well as the pain, frustration, depression and doubt that sometimes accompanies them is gratifying on a very personal level. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family. I love going on adventures with my son and husband, including camping, skiing, going to the beach, and boating. We also love cooking together as well as reading books and playing in the woods.

Ratings and Reviews

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

I have focused on clinical research and evidence based medicine for the last 15 years. My research has been on varied surgical topics, most recently focusing on weight loss surgery. I am interested in learning more about how and why weight loss surgeries work, as well as the technical differences during surgery that help my patients achieve better outcomes long-term.
