Nursing School
Nursing SchoolThe Duke University School of Nursing's mission is to create a center of excellence for the advancement of nursing science, the promotion of clinical scholarship, and the education of clinical leaders and advanced practitioners. Through nursing research, education, and practice, students and faculty seek to enhance the quality of life for people of all cultures, economic levels, and geographic locations. A national leader in nursing education, the School of Nursing offers the accelerated bachelor of science in nursing degree (ABSN), the master of science in nursing degree (MSN), the post-master's certificate, and the doctoral degree (PhD). In late 2007 the School of Nursing became the state's first nursing school to offer a doctor of nursing practice degree (DNP). The first cohort of students will enroll in fall 2008. The School of Nursing also furthers the science of nursing through a robust research program. One of the school's signature research initiatives is the Trajectories of Aging and Care (TRAC) Center, a National Institute of Nursing Research-funded interdisciplinary research center dedicated to addressing the health care needs of the elderly. The School of Nursing is a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center of Excellence in Technology and was awarded $1.43 million over five years by the agency for training nursing faculty from across the nation on the latest in educational and clinical practice technology.
