In 2005 Duke and the National University of Singapore signed an agreement to partner in establishing a new medical school in Singapore. The school will have a curriculum patterned after that of the Duke University School of Medicine.

The Singapore government is making a significant investment in the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School as part of a national strategy to become a leading center for medical research and education.

The partnership also presents a valuable strategic opportunity for Duke to expand its global reach and research.

R. Sanders Williams, MD, dean of the Duke University School of Medicine, was named founding dean of Duke-NUS in August 2005. The school admitted its first class in the fall of 2007.
