S.C. Patient: Everything About Duke is Better

Robert F. Frantz

He lives 240 miles away in Greenville, S.C., but Duke Medicine is like a home away from home to Robert F. Frantz, 79.

He came to Duke for prostate laser surgery in August 2007 and was so impressed with the quality of care, he made Duke the first choice for medical care for himself and his wife Dorothy.

"Everything about Duke is excellent," he says. "The doctors, the nurses, and the services. Doctors give you whatever time is necessary. Most other places run you in and out like a mass production line product. The care at Duke is much better."

He and Dorothy-who has high blood pressure, diabetes, hip and other problems-travel to Duke about once every six months, and work with Duke by telephone. They come more often if needed.

Frantz was so moved by the quality of care he and his wife receive he recently made a  $10,000 gift to The Friends of Duke Medicine Fund, with more gifts planned in the future.

"I give only to a few select charities-ones that I respect and where the money is well-spent," he says. "In many charities the collection people take 50-80 percent with very little going to the people you are trying to help. Duke is very well run and I know I'm giving to a worthy cause."
