The second Basic Science Day featured talks from scientists in each of the eight basic science departments as well as from the clinical departments of Anesthesiology and Radiology.
The community-wide nature of the event reached out to the wider university through a presentation from a faculty member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The day included remarks by Dean Nancy Andrews, MD, PhD, and Sally Kornbluth, PhD , vice dean for research, as well as keynotes from the new director of the Duke Cancer Institute, Michael B. Kastan, MD, PhD, and the incoming chair of the Department of Neurobiology, Steve Lisberger, PhD. Trainees' work was included in a well-attended poster session which was made up of multiple entries from every basic science department.
