Duke University Health System is a world-class network dedicated to employing Duke's strengths in patient care, education, and research to enhance and improve health care throughout North Carolina and southern Virginia. Founded in 1998 to provide efficient, responsive care while responding to the changing health care environment, the health system provides quality health services across the entire continuum of care, from wellness to hospice.

Duke University Hospital
A tertiary and quaternary care hospital, Duke University Hospital is consistently rated as one of the top hospitals in the United States. It offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center; a major surgery suite containing 35 operating rooms; an endosurgery center; the Ambulatory Surgery Center with nine operating rooms; an eye center with five operating rooms; and an extensive diagnostic and interventional radiology area. The facility also functions as a research hospital where medical advances are achieved and applied, and as a teaching hospital for students of medicine, nursing, and the allied health sciences.

Durham Regional Hospital
Durham Regional Hospital is a 369-bed acute care facility serving the health care needs of Durham, Orange, Person, and Granville counties and the surrounding communities for more than 35 years. Durham Regional places a strong focus on providing outstanding medical care with compassionate, personalized service in a comfortable community hospital setting. The hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including orthopaedics, weight-loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services, and also offers care at the Durham Rehabilitation Institute and Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center.

Duke Raleigh Hospital
Duke Raleigh Hospital offers high-quality diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitation, prevention, support, and health education services within a patient-friendly atmosphere. Located in North Raleigh, Duke Raleigh has been a member of the Duke University Health System since 1998 and has served Wake County residents as a trusted health care resource for more than 30 years. The hospital provides a comprehensive array of services, including the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center, the Duke Raleigh Orthopaedic and Spine Center, cardiovascular services, neurosciences, diabetes center, wellness services, outpatient imaging center, wound healing center, sleep lab, intensive care and progressive care units, pain clinic, same-day surgery center, emergency department, and community education and outreach.

Duke HomeCare & Hospice
Duke HomeCare & Hospice offers hospice, home health, and infusion services. Hospice care is offered to terminally ill patients in their home, skilled-nursing facilities, assisted-living facilities, and at our two inpatient facilities located in Hillsborough and Durham, North Carolina. Home health services are available to patients who are homebound and in need of nursing services, physical therapy, speech therapy, or occupational therapy. Infusion services are provided at home or at work for individuals who need intravenous therapy.

Duke Primary Care
Duke created this extensive network of community-based primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in 1994. Duke Primary Care physicians have consulting associate faculty appointments with Duke in their respective academic departments.

Private Diagnostic Clinic
While not a formal member of the health system, another affiliated partner in providing care is the Private Diagnostic Clinic PLLC -- an independent, for-profit limited liability company through which Duke faculty physicians practice medicine. Most clinics are on the Duke University campus, but several are located throughout Durham; more than 150 outreach clinics are held each month in surrounding communities. Several faculty members have established smaller community-based practices in central and eastern North Carolina and in southern Virginia -- collectively known as the Community PDC.
