About the School of Nursing
The Duke University School of Nursing is one of the nation's best providers of nursing education, ranked 15th among nursing schools by U.S.News & World Report and 18th in National Institutes of Health research funding. The school offers academic programs that allow students the freedom to customize learning opportunities that fit their goals and needs.
- The accelerated bachelor of science in nursing (accelerated BSN) degree program is designed for the student who has already completed an undergraduate degree and offers clinical experiences in multiple sites within the top-ranked Duke University Health System.
- In the master of science in nursing (MSN) degree program, students pursue their educational endeavors with faculty and clinical/consulting associates who have expertise and research in students' chosen areas of specialization.
- The post-master's certificate program provides opportunities for the student who already has a master's degree to gain specialized knowledge within any of the majors offered by the Duke University School of Nursing.
- The doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree program prepares nurse-scientists to assume roles primarily in academic and research settings. Students work with faculty in a series of mentored experiences, supported by formal course work.
- The doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree program leads to a practice doctorate that prepares students to assess the evidence gained through nursing research, evaluate the impact of that research on their practice, and make changes to enhance quality of care. The Duke University School of Nursing is the first nursing school in North Carolina to offer the DNP degree.
